What is improv?
Improv is improvised theatre and games and can be comedic or dramatic. Improv involves group games and warm-ups and the creation of unscripted scenes on the spot.
Is Improv Stand-up comedy?
No. Improv is not stand up and you do not have to be a comedian to do it.
Do I have to be funny?
No. Although, often times improv ends up being funny naturally.
Do I need to have acting experience?
No.
What kinds of people go to an improv class?
All ages and all kinds of people attend improv classes. Our classes have been attended by store-persons, doctors, social workers, students, vets, teachers, lawyers, accountants, musicians, actors, artists, engineers, retirees, neuroscientists, authors and beauticians.
What do I need to do an improv class?
A bottle/glass of water, comfortable clothes and shoes and a sense of openness, curiosity and fun! Online improv works best on a laptop but we have had people play successfully on their phone or tablet. Make sure you get to class a few minutes early to test your mic and camera.
Also make sure you are in a quiet environment with enough light so your fellow players can see you. And of course you will need to download the Zoom video conferencing app.
What benefits can I expect to get from improv?
More self-confidence, lightness and laughter, social interaction, improved ability to think on your feet, improved creative and flexible thinking, self-expression and great exercise for your brain!
